The Netherlands totally dominated this afternoon’s match against the home team of Poland to astonish the local audience with a stellar performance and continue their impressive campaign at the 2009 CEV Orlen European Championships. Later in the evening Spain had to go through a long and thrilling five-setter with Croatia to notch the very last spot still available for the second round. In Pool C Russia had to cope with a fierce resistance of the emerging Belgian team while Nikolay Karpol and the girls of Belarus had to prepare their luggage overnight since their defeat against Bulgaria put them definitely out of contention in this Championship.

Q: You had your best finish of fifth at Infineon Raceway last year. With more road courses on the schedule this year, are you looking forward to returning to Sonoma?

Danica Patrick: Definitely. I didn’t enjoy going to Sonoma so much the first couple of years. I struggled quite a bit, but I moved over to Andretti Green Racing and my first year there with the team I qualified on the front row and finished sixth that year, and from then on I’ve enjoyed going back. I definitely look forward to going back again this year. We’ve been strong the last couple of years, and, as an addition, I definitely like the view (of the wine country).

World number four  Elena Dementieva made light work of beating Britain’s Anne Keothavong in the first round of the West Classic in California. The Sexy Russian player cruised to a 6-1 6-4 victory in her first match since her epic Wimbledon semi-final defeat by another hot women Serena Williams earlier this month.

“She played well, definitely felt like my first match in ages,” wrote Keothavong on her Twitter webpage.

Jelena had taken some drug tests after her first round loss in Wimbledon and turns out she suffered from mononucleosis, she was told to rest two more weeks…! “This only makes me more determined to get everything right and work even harder as soon as I can get back on court, which will hopefully be in time for a good solid hard court lead up to the U.S. Open,” she said.
